This document compiles reported Islamophobic and anti-Muslim incidents in India during March
2026, based primarily on coverage by Indian and international news outlets, minority-rights
monitors, and documentation projects. Each entry lists the incident date, location, a brief
description, and key sources. The list is based on accessible public reporting and should be treated
as a best-effort, not an exhaustive, catalogue.
1. 1 March 2026 – Jhagarua village, Jamalpur police station limits, Darbhanga
district, Bihar
Incident: Lynching of Abdul Salam after objecting to anti-Muslim slurs
According to multiple reports, 65-year-old Abdul Salam, a Muslim shopkeeper, was beaten to death
with a khanti (iron digging tool) in Jhagarua village after he intervened in a neighbourhood dispute
and asked a neighbour to stop using abusive, communal language against Muslims. Witnesses told
reporters that Salam urged the parties to address their grievance without targeting the entire
Muslim community, after which members of the Hindu family allegedly assaulted him and struck his
head, causing his death at a local health centre. Police later registered a murder case and arrested
four accused family members.

2. 1 March 2026 – Amhi village, Ghoghardiha block, Madhubani district, Bihar
Incident: Death of fasting Muslim woman Roshan Khatoon after mob assault and alleged forced
drinking of urine–alcohol mixture
Reports describe that Roshan Khatoon, a Muslim woman from Amhi village, went to the house of
the village head to seek help in a local dispute and was instead attacked by a group led by the
mukhiya’s son. She was allegedly tied to a pole, beaten severely, abused while she was fasting,
and, according to family members and villagers quoted in multiple outlets, forced to drink a mixture
of alcohol and urine when she asked for water. She was hospitalised in Patna and died on 1 March,
with police registering a case and detaining the village head’s son; her family say she was targeted
and humiliated because she was Muslim.

3. 2 March 2026 – Near Sarekala village, Bhiwadi area, Khairthal–Tijara
district, Alwar, Rajasthan
Incident: Killing of Aamir Khan, 28-year-old Muslim truck driver, in alleged cow-vigilante attack
Aamir Khan, a 28-year-old Muslim pickup truck driver from Palwal district in Haryana, was shot
dead near Bhiwadi in the early hours while on his way to deliver fruit to Delhi’s Azadpur mandi. His
family and a key eyewitness told journalists that a group of men they identified as linked to Bajrang
Dal rammed his vehicle and then opened fire, with a bullet striking him near the eye. Police
subsequently confirmed that he died of a gunshot wound and registered a murder case; a parallel
FIR was also filed alleging cattle smuggling, which the family strongly denies, framing the killing as
a hate crime driven by cow vigilantism.

4. 4 March 2026 – Mau Rasulpur village, Allahganj area, Shahjahanpur
district, Uttar Pradesh
Incident: Holi colours thrown on Muslim man spark clash; FIR largely targets Muslims
Police and media reports say that during Holi celebrations, members of the Hindu community in
Mau Rasulpur allegedly threw colours forcefully on a Muslim resident, triggering an argument that
escalated into stone-pelting between groups from both communities, injuring at least 11 people.
While police detained people from both sides, the main FIR—filed the following day—names eight
Muslim men and around 100 unidentified villagers under serious rioting and public-order sections,
even though the initial complaint describes the forced throwing of colours on a Muslim man as the
spark for the violence.

5. 6 March 2026 – Ambegaon police station area, Pune city, Maharashtra
Incident: Cow vigilantes assault Muslim truck driver and force him to eat cow dung
An 18-year-old Muslim helper on a truck transporting buffaloes alleged that self-styled cow
vigilantes intercepted their vehicle near Khed Shivapur / Ambegaon, accused them of illegal cattle
transport despite valid papers, beat him, abused him with communal slurs, and forced him to eat
cow dung while compelling him to chant “Jai Shri Ram”. A video of the assault later surfaced online;
Pune police initially only booked the driver under animal-cruelty provisions but, after the video
emerged, registered an FIR against four vigilantes under new criminal-code sections for promoting
enmity, outraging religious feelings, intentional insult and assault, and arrested at least two of them.

6. 8 March 2026 – Chadipur village, Karanda police station, Ghazipur district,
Uttar Pradesh
Incident: Shooting of 60-year-old Aas Mohammad after Holi dispute
In Chadipur village, 60-year-old Aas Mohammad, a Muslim man, was shot dead with a rifle outside
the house of neighbour Pinkal Pandey after a series of altercations linked to Holi festivities. Police
told reporters that an initial quarrel began on 3 March when Pandey allegedly passed remarks at
Mohammad’s sons; tensions resurfaced over colours thrown on Holi, and on 8 March, as
Mohammad walked past Pandey’s home, a fresh exchange led Pandey to fetch his licensed
weapon and open fire, killing him. The case has been registered as murder, with several associates
detained, and covered as the killing of a man from the minority community over a Holi dispute.

7. 10 March 2026 (early hours) – Chibinang area and Tura town, West Garo
Hills district, Meghalaya
Incident: Two Bengali Muslims killed and mosque, Muslim shops attacked in West Garo Hills
violence
During ethnic-political unrest linked to Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections, violence in
the plains-belt area around Chibinang led to the killing of two Bengali Muslim men, Khairul Islam
and Ashraful Islam, and widespread attacks on Muslim property. Muslim Network TV and other
outlets report that the men died in the early hours of Tuesday, one from sharp-weapon injuries and
the other from a gunshot fired from a locally made weapon, while mobs vandalised Tura’s Jama
Masjid, assaulted the imam, and burned or damaged dozens of Muslim homes and more than 30
Muslim-owned shops before authorities imposed curfew and suspended mobile internet.

8. 11 March 2026 (around 1:25 a.m., night of 10–11 March) – Tikri Brahmin
village, Sadar police station limits, Palwal district, Haryana
Incident: Arson attack on mosque during Ramadan itikaf
In Tikri Brahmin village, unidentified assailants allegedly broke a window of the local mosque and
poured petrol inside while four Muslim worshippers were sleeping there in itikaf during the last ten
days of Ramadan, sparking a fire around 1:25 a.m. The imam and others told reporters that they
awoke to smoke and heat, raised an alarm, and—along with villagers—managed to douse the
flames before major damage or casualties occurred. Police registered a case naming at least one
suspect and deployed multiple teams and additional forces, while Muslim residents described
heightened fear in an area with a history of communal tension.

9. 10 March 2026 – Cinema hall in Vasai, Palghar district, Maharashtra (video
location under police verification)
Incident: Kerala Story 2 screening followed by crowd pledging social and economic boycott of
Muslims
A widely shared video shows people in a cinema hall chanting slogans and taking an oath to
socially and economically boycott Muslims after a free screening of the film “The Kerala Story 2”.
Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain posted the clip stating it was recorded on 10 March in a Vasai
hall in Palghar district, with participants vowing to only do business with Hindus and to avoid Muslim
vendors for everyday needs while shouting “Jai Shri Ram”. Multiple news outlets reported that
police in the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai–Virar commissionerate were probing the video’s authenticity,
while commentators condemned the pledge as a call for organised anti-Muslim discrimination and a
sign of cinema being used to deepen communal polarisation.

10. 13 March 2026 – Bopdev Ghat, Bhiwari area, Pune district, Maharashtra
Incident: Mob attack on 14 Muslim men at lakeside Iftar gathering
Alt News documented that a group of 14 Muslim men in their twenties and thirties gathered at
Bopdev Ghat to break their Ramadan fast by the lakeside when a mob of roughly 150–200 people
descended on them, shouted anti-Muslim abuse, told them that Muslims could not sit there, tore
their clothes and skullcaps, and assaulted them with sticks, rods, chains, whips and sharp
weapons. Ten of the men sustained injuries, including serious head wounds; police registered an
FIR against around 150 unidentified persons under multiple provisions of the new criminal code and
arms laws, but as of 19 March the station house officer told Alt News that no arrests had yet been
made.

11. 15–16 March 2026 – Islampur/Bongara area under Azara revenue circle,
Kamrup (Metro) district, Assam
Incident: Mass eviction and demolition of hundreds of Muslim homes in Azara
Assam authorities carried out a large eviction drive on land classified as a tribal belt near Guwahati
airport, demolishing roughly 500 houses in the Islampur/Bongara area over two days. Madhyamam
and Muslim Network TV report that most residents were Bengali-origin Muslims who had lived there
for nearly two decades after being displaced by floods and erosion; officials said they lacked legal
eligibility to reside on tribal-belt land and cited an earlier eviction notice. Visuals showed bulldozers
razing bamboo-and-tin homes as families looked on, and rights groups criticised the operation as
part of “bulldozer politics” disproportionately targeting marginalised Muslim communities.

12. 15 March 2026 (with context from 5 and 8 March) – Uttam Nagar, West
Delhi
Incident: Bulldozer demolition and Hindu rallies target Muslim family and neighbourhood after Holi
killing
Following the 5 March killing of Hindu man Tarun Kumar Bhutola during a Holi-time clash in Uttam
Nagar, civic authorities on 8 March used bulldozers to demolish parts of the house of a Muslim
family linked to one accused, in what residents and rights groups described as collective
punishment aimed at Muslims while Hindutva groups held protests. Frontline and human-rights
monitors report that on 15 March a large rally of organisations styling themselves as the “Sarv
Hindu Samaj” marched through the area with inflammatory slogans, demanding that Muslims be
prevented from celebrating Eid and calling for harsh action, deepening fear among local Muslim
residents.

13. 9 March 2026 (hate speech) – Uttam Nagar, Delhi
Incident: Hindu Raksha Dal leader Lalit Sharma issues open call for bloodshed against Muslims on
Eid
Alt News documented a video from Uttam Nagar in which Hindu Raksha Dal’s Uttarakhand chief
Lalit Sharma declared, “This Eid, we will play Holi with blood by shooting Muslims,” adding that Eid
and Eid namaz would not be allowed in the area and threatening bullets in people’s chests if
Muslims tried to celebrate. The article situates this speech within a pattern of repeated death
threats and violent rhetoric by Sharma and the Hindu Raksha Dal targeting Muslims, and notes that
despite multiple FIRs over previous hate speech episodes, effective action has been limited.

14. 15 March 2026 – Delhi (Greater Kailash to Max Mueller Bhavan cab route)
Incident: Muslim Supreme Court lawyer alleges Islamophobic intimidation by Ola driver
Senior advocate Saif Mahmood reported that an Ola driver who picked him up in south Delhi
subjected him to a disturbing monologue about how he had previously beaten up Muslim
passengers, describing in detail how he and others assaulted Muslims for eating non-vegetarian
food in his vehicle or talking about Bajrang Dal, and boasting that the Uttar Pradesh government
was “teaching such people a lesson”. Mahmood, whose Muslim name the driver could see in the
app, said the stories appeared intended to intimidate him as a Muslim passenger. He sent a
detailed legal notice to Ola; the company responded with a generic apology email and said it had
suspended the driver but did not address his questions about non-discrimination and passenger
safety policies.

15. 16 March 2026 – Mustafabad area, northeast Delhi
Incident: Two Muslim schoolboys beaten after exam; victims say they were singled out for their
names and skullcaps
Two Muslim Class 12 students alleged in complaints and media interviews that a group of around
25–45 boys attacked them near Karawal Nagar Road as they walked home from a Hindi exam and
afternoon namaz on 16 March. One student said the assailants asked their names, noticed that he
was wearing a skullcap, then assaulted only the two Muslim boys while leaving their Hindu friends
unharmed, leaving him with a fractured nose, a deep head wound and other injuries. Police
registered an FIR under section 110/3(5) of the new criminal code at Dayalpur station and publicly
described the incident as a clash between schoolboy groups, but the victims and AIMIM activists
insisted they were targeted because of their Muslim identity.

16. 16–17 March 2026 – Panchganga Ghat area, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
Incident: Arrest of 14 Muslim men over Iftar gathering on Ganga boat
Police in Varanasi arrested 14 Muslim men after a video went viral showing an Iftar gathering on a
boat on the Ganga near Panchganga Ghat, where the group was seen eating biryani and fruits
while wearing life jackets. Following a complaint by a local BJP youth-wing leader that they had
consumed non-vegetarian food and thrown leftovers into the sacred river, an FIR was registered
under provisions related to outraging religious feelings, promoting enmity and polluting water, and
all 14 men visible in the clip were rounded up. Rights groups and commentators criticised the
arrests as criminalisation of ordinary Muslim religious practice during Ramadan.

Rorawar police station, Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh
Incident: Four Muslim youths attacked while returning from namaz
Clarion India and rights monitors reported that four Muslim youths were waylaid and beaten by a
group of around a dozen men armed with sticks while returning home after offering namaz in
Aligarh’s Shahjamal area. Two of the youths were critically injured and referred to Jawaharlal Nehru
Medical College Hospital. Relatives said an earlier dispute between neighbourhood groups had
been taken to the police station and “settled”, but that the attackers later lay in wait and assaulted
the boys as they walked back from prayers.

Kokrajhar district, Assam
Incident: Mob vandalism of Muslim homes over alleged cow meat
In Nayasara village in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, a mob attacked and vandalised homes belonging
to Muslim families after rumours circulated about suspected cow meat being found near a Muslim
household. Muslim Network TV and other outlets report that videos showed large groups damaging
structures while police were present; seven suspects (four men and three women) were detained.
Residents told reporters that the meat may have come from a nearby wedding feast or been
deliberately placed, and rights groups highlighted the incident as another example of beef-related
vigilante violence against Muslims.
