A dated, sourced record — 1 to 30 September 2026

Key patterns this month
- At least three Muslims killed in incidents with an alleged identity or vigilante motive — Jalilur Rahman (Tripura, 2 Sep), Naushad Ahmed (Bijnor, 16 Sep) and Saikun Khan (Alwar, 24 Sep).
- Mosques under sustained pressure: demolitions in Saharanpur (5 Sep), Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh (22–23 Sep) and Ujjain (26–30 Sep), plus notices, utility cuts and an attack in Bhatkal.
- Garba/Navratri exclusion campaign ahead of the festival: VHP’s Aadhaar-and-tilak diktat, backed by a Maharashtra minister and a BJP MLA’s sexualised threat against Muslim women.
- Beef and ‘love jihad’ accusations continue to be used to justify violence (Lucknow, Prayagraj, Bijnor, Meerut).
- Muslim professionals and journalists targeted: a vice-principal forced out, an IPS officer transferred, women journalists beaten, and FIRs against reporters and Maktoob Media.
- Voter-roll revision (SIR): repeated reports of bulk Form-7 deletion bids against Muslims in Jharkhand, Karnataka and Hyderabad.
Scope & method
Only incidents that occurred between 1 and 30 September 2026 are included. Where the exact day is not in the reporting, the entry is marked “~” or “(report)” with the publication date. Sources reviewed: Maktoob Media (the full India section for September, page by page), The Wire, The Observer Post, Clarion India, Alt News, Siasat, Muslim Mirror, Madhyamam and others, cross-checked against the IAMC weekly India Human Rights Monitor (4, 10, 18 and 25 Sep). Each entry links to at least one report. Claims are attributed as reported; where police dispute a communal motive, this is noted.
Limitations. Mohammed Zubair’s X account (@zoo_bear) could not be accessed from this environment, so video-only incidents posted there and not picked up by news outlets may be missing. The Indian Express, The Telegraph and The Hindu could not be browsed systematically; their September reporting was not found to add distinct incidents beyond those listed. Some outlets (Clarion India, The Observer Post) blocked direct reading, so their reports are cited from verified headlines and corroborating outlets. This is a documented record, not an exhaustive count.
Deliberately excluded (outside September): Bajrang Dal attack on the Malala/Anne Frank reading in Ahmedabad (Aug); Murshidabad father and three sons pushed into Bangladesh (13–14 Aug); Sahida Fakir’s deportation (earlier); APCR’s Kanwar Yatra hate log (July–Aug); blocked Muslim funeral in Darbhanga (1 Oct); and a Hathras double murder with no communal motive alleged (28 Sep).
